update from update

We are in Charlotte in bumper to bumper traffic, tractor trailer broke down The cap is off the road but the trailer is still in the left lane. I thought we were having a bad day. We have decided to for go getting to Salisbury and go to mothers. If we are now for any length of time I will be there to help her. She is home now and it will be good to give her a hand.

Yep, when we think we got it so bad, someone else has it worst.

It is a bright and beautiful day!

UPDATE from stressful day

We made it to the Flying J fuel stop close to the SC, NC border. The shut down buzzer is still on.
So even tho we know we needed to get the things done yesterday, it was not the problem. We finally ate some dinner at 9:30p.

So this morning we stopped in at the Freight Liner parts department in Charlotte, NC. They do not have anyone there to work on the truck. Kris bought a new sensor hoping this may be the problem.

Kris thinks the problem could be from the oil pump. This is not good since it is somewhere inside the engine. We will know more once the sensor is replaced.

Well, well, kitty is having a spell. CAT engine! HA! A little play on words!

We have a site being held for us at a campground near Salisbury,NC. We hope to get there today and at least I can get to my doctors appointment and Kris can figure things out for the truck.

My heart goes out to him. He has been a good sport through all of this, but I can see it wearing on him not knowing for sure what is going on.

You think you have a stressful day, think again

Two weekends ago was spent securing the steps by way of welding for the Freight liner from a recent blown tire.
Last weekend was spent installing a new water pump on the Freight liner.
This weekend is spent traveling from Georgia to Salisbury NC to visit my back doctor. On the surface this is not bad drive, except we drove 2 hours and spent 2 hours at a Flying J to Millerize the exhaust which needs to be replaced. We drove 15 more miles and the engine shut down buzzer came on. The gauge was showing hot,but the fluid was flowing just fine. We stopped for a little bit and decided to call Freight liner in Greenville, SC to see if they could work us in to get the radiator flushed out. They said yep, come on in and they also advise to have a new thermostat put on as well. Thank goodness the CAT shop was across the highway had one in stock. We were hoping to get the exhaust here too, but they didn't have one so we called Charlotte, NC and they advised us it would be 2 working days to get one in. We have to be in Charleston, SC Monday evening since Kris's job starts on Tuesday. So we will see if the dealer in Charleston can order us one and Kris can install it. I do hope we can make it til then.

To recap we left Ga. at 8a and arrived Greenville, SC at 12:45p and as of 7:00p we are still here.
Kris was able to buy some clamps here to help the exhaust hold up until we can get a new one on. The truck is out of the shop now and Kris is adding the clamps. He is having to Millerize this as well. We have no idea where we are going to stop for the night, but I know one thing I am a HUNGRY little girl! We have very little water on board so I don't want to use it cooking. We did not do any food shopping before we left so there is not a lot to choose from. This is the first time I have been this ill prepared on the food side. Be as it may this too shall pass.

The air bags to the cab is old and one blew on Kris's way home from work yesterday. So we will be replacing all 3 in the next couple of weeks.

Some may say we have had a rough couple of days and may get upset if this were them. However, this is all about maintenance and the truck is ten years old. We were blessed not to be stranded on the side of the highway, and it is not raining! Things will break down after awhile. This is why I try to stress to people, even those who have homes. SAVE! Things will happen. Be prepared! We have been very fortunate Kris has been able to do most of the repairs himself. There are times when we have to let the "BIG BOYS" handle things. They have the right equipment and proper area to get the job done right.

HAPPY TRAILS!

Parent & Child Realtionships

You may have heard the statement, "a little child will lead them". Well in my case it is a adult child which has enlighten me.

All parents would like to have a good relationship with their children. Some do a better job at this than others. I for one have made a bunch of mistakes and it seems like there is no end to them. I know my heart is true and I want my children to be happy. It is not like I wake up in the mornings and say "now, what can I do to irritate my kids today." I look back at my mom's and my relationship and see how so much was wrong with it and yet so much was right. It is amazing to see how much we are like our parents when we get older and our children are grown with kids of their own. I do want a better relationship with my kids then my mom and I have. I guess this is what most parents want, but we seem to find ourselves in a situation and wonder how in the world did we get here?

One thing that I know would help any relationship is communication, love and forgiveness. We also need to have the willingness to accept constructive correction and want to change.

After doing some soul searching and observing some patterns, I have been able to understand more of what my children have been trying to tell me.

They have express concerns about my inability to allow them to live their life as they feel is right for them. My children and I are on a rocky road at this point in time and I know it is more me than them. I love my children and I know I will have to be the one to make some changes. It is very difficult to admit ones short comings, but I have realized (I hope not to late) being right or the thought of being right is highly overrated. My son tells me I like to "fix" people because he too is some what like this. We mean it for good, but I can see where it has gotten out of hand. I will need to learn to just enjoy our time together.

I have learned from very wise instruction how to start the process of giving my children room to breath. I still have a long way to go, but I know I am not where I was at. I hope my first step will be received as an act of apology and theirs will be the act of forgiveness.

Nice Folks

The Freight Liner's water pump went south over the weekend. We were so fortunate in many areas. We were out messing around town and just happen to be walking toward the front of the truck when we saw a steady drip coming from the bottom of the motor. We made a bee line home and by the time Kris park the truck the drip had turned into a steady stream. Of course by the time he was able to get to the pump and take it off and find out for sure it was the pump all stores were closed. The after hours numbers were not working and being the next day was Sunday everything was closed.

Kris had down time scheduled at work for the system on Monday and knew it would not be able to get to work since rental car office was not open on Sundays either.

The RV Park owner, Mike let Kris borrower his truck to run around town Sunday to see if he could find any store that could help. Mike was going to be out of town on Monday so Kris asked another RV'er that we have become friends with if he could take him on Monday to the store. He threw Kris the keys to his car and said take it and take all the time you need. Mike had told Kris about a Cat parts store up the road a bit and so Kris called them this morning. They had the part which was such a wonderful blessing. If they did not have a part we would have had to go to Atlanta or Chattanooga, Tn. They both are tit for tat on mileage, just which of the two evils of traffic & big city you want to deal with.

We have been so blessed that this happen now since we suppose to be traveling to PA this coming weekend. Kris said he did not believe he would have made it to work and that would be nasty to be sitting on the side of the road and having a tow. The pump is 10 years old and things will wear out. We are very happy to be in an area that had nice people and a part store and a safe place to work on the truck. Kris topped the guys car off with gas. A small price to pay for the gracious act of kindness.

Oh, the down time was canceled by the local techs. Many reasons as to why, but I think they were not comfortable with the other two guys that was working with Kris to put the system on line considering this is one of Atlanta's International airport radar system. Note: a very busy airport to say the least.

Hig Tech Toys

Our wonderful son tires so patiently to bring us in to the high tech age. I have finally come around to the Mac way of thinking and I don't know how I have lived without it for so long. There is absolutely no thinking or headaches with the Mac. For me to say this at my age is a feat in itself! Now, I am the proud owner of the ipod Touch. I have almost driven my son up the wall because all I have been using it for is music. He keeps telling me it can do so much more. I have tried to explain to him I am happy with just the music. Well, I have again stepped out of my comfort zone and started to add apps to my ipod Touch. Oh and don't say Touch! That is another thing that techies cannot stand. It is a ipod Touch, ok ipt. HA!

I remember when all I wanted from a cell phone is to make calls, period. Now Apple has launched this thing called an iphone. It can do everything but change the oil in your car and wash the dishes. I thought I was a person who had the vision to see the potenial in things, but I really thought this iphone thing was a bit much. Well since I bought the ipt a light has been turned on and turned on bright!

Well let me explain. As you can tell from my bolgs we are full time RV'ers. If anyone knows anything about RV's the one thing you will notice is, there is not a lot of room for a lot of stuff. Big stuff, heavy stuff and a lot of little stuff. So space is limited even for CD's audio or otherwise.

So when I purchased the ipt I was able to transfer all my audio CD's on my lap top through itunes and then load them on to my ipt. Now I can take my music, audio books, a lot of pictures, games everywhere I go even if I don't have my RV with me. I took it all to Puerto Rico and never missed a beat! Now this is cool!

Well now a little birdy is telling me Apple will be launching a 32g iphone shortly. Well I can have all my music, audio books, so forth and now have it all on a phone so I don't have to carry 2 devices. On top of this I will have the internet on the phone as well. Now that is sweet!

We recently purchased a mifi card from Verizon for my Mac. This is so nice to have the internet wherever I take my Mac. There is tethering to the Mac. This is a credit card size card that I can carry in my bag and or pocket. It is a much simpler way to jump on the internet especially the way we travel.

We are looking into up grading our home stereo system that will house a terabyte hard drive which will be great for storing movies. We will soon be able to record straight to the hard drive as well as storing our musice, audio books, photos, games and the like. This is such a big step for the RV industry and US!

Our son tells us that Tivo can do all of this. We will check out to see if it will work with our satellite company.

I am a true Apple believer and a fan and now apart of the Apple family so to speak! Their products are sweet and so easy to use and to understand.

I know our son is breathing a sigh of satisfaction knowing that all the years of educating and beating his head against a brick wall is finally paying off!

Long Road of Goodies

If you like yard sales well you can sure get your fill here in Adairsville, GA. We we decided to take a back road to Calhoun for a easy day of messing around. We like to travel the back roads to see the sites and have a nice relaxing drive. However, we did not know that this back road was going to be filled on each side of the road with yard sells for miles and miles. We later found out on this particular road there is a 90 mile yard sell once a year. 90 miles, my goodness! The day we were driving down this road was on a Friday. I cannot image what it will look like on a Saturday! I though of grandma Miller and how she would just be so giddy over all of this. She and Grandma Toler would be tit for tat here. They both loved a bargain.
