Some Very Nice People We Have Met

We have met some very nice people here in Bath, NY.
Jean & Harris Cook and their very sweet dog Sabrina from the Tampa Bay area in Fl.
Also, Bob & Van and their cute little dog Bo from Corpse Cristie, TX

I have always heard of people you just met and you feel like you have known them for a long time. Well these two wonderful couples are just that. We have had the best time joking and talking for hours on end. It has been a treat to have met them here.

It is our hope we will meet them again on the road.

Bike Ride

We had one of the best bicycle rides today. We rode for 3 1/2 hours breaking for a picnic lunch and a few rest stops. The ride took us 15 miles from Millport through woods and along side a canal to Watkins Glen. Yes, the place we hiked the gorge a few weeks ago. The path was easy with a slight incline coming back. Now don't think we are not tired, It was not a ride which caused heavy breathing. I don't think we should tell our rear ends that it was fun. It takes a little more effort to walk for a day or so! Kris has realized with my body getting back in gear we made need to upgrade our bikes from casual riding to a little something on the more serious side. Now I wonder what gave him idea like this!

Singing bird

There is a camper here in Bath, NY that has a Africa Gray-red tail Parrot. Rainbow sits most of the day on the shoulder of her owner. It was a pleasure speaking to the owner and listening to the Rainbow sing and talk. There was someone walking their dog and the Rainbow said "puppy dog". Then the Rainbow talked like Donald Duck and was singing How much is that doggy in the window and . Then she made a sound like fireworks going off and then made the sound as they busted open. It was so much fun to listen to her. The owner never coached her to do anything. She just did things at random. She said monster! He has been calling her a monster since she graps his nose with her beak and pecks his ear, of course no pain, just all in fun. The owner said he has had her from the time she hatched out of the egg.

The Bride

When we were at inspiration point we saw the bride after the wedding and wished her much happiness. The wedding couple lives in Holly Springs, NC. It is truly a small world since our son lives there as well.

More on Lecthworth State Park

We were very fortunate to get a site at the park to stay overnight. When we called a few days ago the park was booked up. We decided to check in at the campground to see if there might have been a cancellation. We lucked up and a site opened up a few minutes before we arrived! The couple next to us reserved the site for part of a wedding party they were apart of.

While we were sitting out after supper we noticed a small object wandering by us. Kris
turned the flashlight on and there in all its glory was Pe-Pe La Pew just a few feet from us!
Then the next night we had a visit from Rocky Raccoon.

Lecthworth State Park, NY

Kris and I visited Letchworth State Park over the weekend. The park has been nick named “The Grand Canyon of the east. We agree. The sites are something to behold!

There is a dam which was built to keep Rochester from flooding. The valley has flooded twice in recent years. Once around 1970's and then again early 1990's

The park is 40 miles long with an abundance of trails and sites to see. The first day we arrived we rode our bikes for about 3 hours. This was not just any ride. We were riding on a nice wide smooth trail until of of a sudden we were on a trail that is most suited for back packing. I am so thankful I have taken advantage of all the opportunities to hike and ride my bike at other rv parks before arriving here.
After all this ride we had only traveled about 3 miles from where we parked the truck.

Flying on the breath of God

If you have never been up in a glider then you have missed a treat!

I had the pleasure of soaring with the eagles last Friday! To experience how the warm air pushes the glider up and up and up is truly amazing. The pilot was able to get me up to 4,000 feet in no time at all!

To be able to see so much of the landscape was a treat as well.

I would love to take a ride over the mountains and see the streams below someday.

I could not believe how tired I was after we landed!

This experience is really something you cannot put on paper. I hope to have the pictures up on Picasa soon.

Watkins Glen Gorge, NY

We have had so many new adventures since we have been in NY I have lost track of the time and keeping my blogs up to date!

Kris and I visited Watkins Glen Gorge a week ago and it is something we hope everyone who loves the out of doors will get to see. It is an amazing site with all the dips and turns and waterfalls this place has to offer.

Not only is the gorge a beautiful site, but also take in to account what it took to put the walk way in to play. I cannot image the work involved and the challenges these brave people were up against. This is a feat all in it self.

We do recommend, to enjoy the walk and less stress on the body to either drive or take the bus up to the upper level and walk down. We lucked up on this and parked at the top because the lot below was full. We took the bus back up to the truck. It is well worth the $3.00 per person the ride! The cost to get into the park is $7 per car. This is to help with the up keep. It is well worth it and more.

We walked down the gorge trail in 2 hours. We stopped often to take pictures. There is no place to really rest. Once you are on the trail you are there until you finish. If it took 2 hours to walk down I cannot image the pain and time to walk up it! Some young people were in flip flops! I bet their feet were hurting when they were through.

I had a walking stick. I liked it because with all the wet and slippery places it helped me keep my balance and allow Kris to take pictures without worry about me falling.

Your may see the pictures we took on picasaweb:

We hope you will enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed taking them!
